Adam Guettel and Craig Lucas' new musical Days of Wine and Roses has set a world premiere at Off-Broadway's Atlantic Theater Company, with performances scheduled to begin May 5 and continue through June 25. A date for opening night is to be announced.
Tony winner Kelli O'Hara and Brian d'Arcy James will lead the cast as Kirsten and Joe, respectively, with Michael Greif at the helm. The story follows a love affair between an executive and a secretary and their attempts to get past their shared alcoholism.
Adapted from the 1962 film and a 1958 teleplay, Days of Wine and Roses is somewhat of a Light in the Piazza reunion. Guettel and Lucas previously collaborated on the 2005 musical, with Guettel winning Tony Awards for his score and orchestrations, and Lucas receiving a Tony nod for his book. O'Hara starred and was Tony-nominated for her performance as Clara.
The production will feature scenic design by Lizzie Clachan, costume design by Dede Ayite, lighting design by Ben Stanton, sound design by Kai Harada, and orchestrations by Guettel. Kim Grigsby will serve as music director, with Antoine Silverman as music contractor. Casting is by The Telsey Office, and Judith Schoenfeld will be production stage manager.
The production is being presented in association with Alchemation and Mark Cortale, indicating a commercial transfer may be in the works.
Tickets will go on sale February 2.
